Having spent some time in the states visiting as many craft breweries as he could over 4 years, he found he wanted to experiment and make his own powerful, delicious beers! Having made some terrible and also great beers he turned to actually using science instead of instinct! This had an almost life changing impact on his limited skillset
Having spent some time in the states visiting as many craft breweries as he could over 4 years, he found he wanted to experiment and make his own powerful, delicious beers! Having made some terrible and also great beers he turned to actually using science instead of instinct! This had an almost life changing impact on his limited skillset as a brewer. On returning to the UK with his family, he made contact with Brian through the Dundee Brew Club. After some significant (and booze fuelled) chats, they joined forces during a beer festival in Dundee and became Mah Hoos Brewing Co.
Brian had his first stab at Brewing at the age of 18. This led to further experimentation and 17 years later finally got the hint after being gifted a book on brewing, decided to take it a bit more seriously! The bug had bitten brian and he embarked on an adventure to improve his beer making skills before finally joining the Dundee Brew C
Brian had his first stab at Brewing at the age of 18. This led to further experimentation and 17 years later finally got the hint after being gifted a book on brewing, decided to take it a bit more seriously! The bug had bitten brian and he embarked on an adventure to improve his beer making skills before finally joining the Dundee Brew Club to get honest feedback and share ideas. Skip forward a few years and his ambition was to become reality after some drunken conversations with Terry. From there, Mah hoos Brewing Co was born.
We founded Mah hoos Brewing Co in the summer of 2023 after talking extensively for years about the upwards trajectory of craft beer. Well, well, well. Here we are in 2024 and many breweries have sadly closed! We must remain small to ensure we can continue to provide quality craft beer for you to enjoy in the hoos or wherever you drink your favourite beer! Our prices can sometimes be higher than elsewhere but be assured you are keeping a local business afloat!
We buy our base malt from local farms like Cratfty Maltsters. Unfortunately it's not always possible to buy speciality malt like roasted barley for our stouts, Wheat malt for our hefe and dextrin (head retention) locally but we do try! Cross My Loof are our main suppliers for everything else. We will also endeavour to use fresh fruit where we can!
We exclusively use Spike or SS Brewtech stainless steel fermenters to ensure the freshest of beer with almost no chance of infection or spoiled beer. The benefit of stainless steel is well known in commercial breweries for its sanitary properties, and we wouldn't settle for less. Our equipment is very small batch so we can keep our recipes agile. Sometimes this means our abv varies, so we write that on by hand as it can vary with batches. We welcome the opportunity to work with our customers so any feedback is always
